I know some people who are attracted mostly or only to a specific race. They would see most people from that race as beautiful even if some people aren't.
I ask them how did their taste came to be and they said thats how they were when they first saw someone of that race. The media shows White women as beauty goddesses yet when I was little, I wasn't attracted to White girls.
Until I went to college for the first time last year, I like girls of different races now. So is it really environment as we say?Is our preference really shaped by our environment in some cases?
It's got to do with one's cultural upbringing. If a person gets limited exposure to people of a particular race, he or she is more likely to conjure up certain stereotypes of that race which are mostly untrue. I grew up amongst people of different races and am not averse to any particular culture, but I prefer Latinoes, Whites and Chinese guys. Personal preferences change over time as you mature, but your cultural background is what influence your perceptions of others. Is our preference really shaped by our environment in some cases?
My preference was actually influenced by my favorite animals as a child. (No, I'm NOT some zoophilia freak. Relax.)
I was really into a certain breed of dog with really unique looking eyes, and one day I saw a boy who had coloring just like the dog -- I've been attracted to that ethnicity ever since!
Of course, this doesn't solve WHY I liked that breed of dog, but I'm just throwing it out there. =))
I've also become interested in different ethnicities/races later in life. I think it depends on how the race/ethnicity was introduced into our lives. Like, how we became conscious of it. (Which brings us back to the dog thing. LOL)
Yeah I think so.
When I grew up my parents did not try to enforce traditional Chinese 'things' or anything in me..
- they didn't send me to Chinese school nor did they force me to speak Chinese, so I've forgotten how to speak my 'native' Cantonese (I can still understand).
- I forgot how to use chopsticks by the time I was 8, etc
etc etc
Also when I was growing up, most of my friends were/are non-Asian; so I'm the opposite of you. When I went to University awhile back, I became more open-minded to Asian men haha.
I like Latinos because I'm Latina and i have things in common with them. But i have been fascinated by Asian culture even since i can remember. And that's why I'm also attracted to Asian men.
It sometimes has to do with what you see. I see asians doing good and I see their women are beautiful I therefore prefer them.
