Why is it OK to allow price gouging in some cases and not others?

It's never OK to price gouge, if you mean some type of predatory pricing scheme. These are illegal.

But, certain types of products are priced based on demand or supply that varies a lot over time. For example, matinee movie tickets are often discounted because demand is low at 3pm. Or, electricity companies charge a lot more for electricity at noon compared to midnight, because demand is very high at noon, and supply is not.

So, the bottom line, I think, is that if pricing decisions are based on supply and demand, you can't count that as price gouging. Why is it OK to allow price gouging in some cases and not others?
To me that is most definitely Gouging the public.

It all depends on who you give money to and how much. I call it legal bribes.
I believe it all boils down to who has the most money and the best legal team. For example the oil industry must have both. I guess it also helps if the politicians are also on your side.
