Have there been any cases where a person has been acquitted because of poverty or welfare?

That depends on the crime doesn't it? Each case is decided on an individual bases so there is bound to be one out there some where. Exceptions are normal though rare.Have there been any cases where a person has been acquitted because of poverty or welfare?
Yes. the charge of vagrancy has been successfully defended on grounds of poverty. If one is abroad with no visible means of support, has no home, no means of support, then that person had no option but to be abroad without means of support visible or otherwise.

Failing to make payment when legally required to do so and ordered to pay by a court likewise gets a not guilty because of poverty. The principle is, one can not get blood from a stone.Have there been any cases where a person has been acquitted because of poverty or welfare?
yes. Happens all the time. It's called jury nullification, and black people acquit fellow black people even though they know they are guilty. It's a serious problem.
No.
